Black Coffee and Lipstick - Copyright Pete Silva - 2020

She puts Chanel on her wrist –
And mystery lines round her eyes
She hears the clock in the kitchen –
She feels her heart keeping time

He said let’s meet in the city –
Down by the marble steps
I know a place we can go – To hear a jazz quartet

She takes a taxi downtown – She says, "Take me away”
Beneath the neon lights – Buying dreams as she waits

Lovers walking palm to palm – Leaning in close to kiss
The city spins around her – Like a whirlwind dance

The snow on the window – Glows like Christmas lights
Across the boulevard – It looks warm inside

She hesitates for a moment – And walks in all alone
She takes a seat by the window –
And dreams about the unknown

Black coffee and lipstick – In a lonely cafe
Shopping bags on the floor – The waiter brings a tray

She waves him off as she searches –
He must be on his way
Black coffee and lipstick – In a lonely cafe

Gazing out through the window – He must be on his way
Black coffee and lipstick - In a lonely cafe
